Peoria Rivermen News Release

Rochester, NY (December 12, 2008) - Chris Holt came within two minutes of notching a shutout on Thursday in Hamilton; on Friday night he finished the job. Holt made 17 saves en route to a 2-0 win for the Peoria Rivermen over the Rochester Americans at Blue Cross Arena.

Holt improved to 4-0-0 with the Rivermen and has allowed two goals or fewer in all four starts. It was the first shutout by a Rivermen goaltender this season and the fifth win in the last six games for Peoria.

The Rivermen (16-10-1=33) win coupled with an Iowa (15-8-3=33) loss in overtime sets Peoria into a first-place tie with the Chops in the West Division race.

A goaltending battle between Holt and Americans' netminder Mike Brodeur kept the game scoreless until the third period when Tyson Strachan notched the eventual game-winner. Strachan carried the puck into the slot and after a give-and-go with Trent Whitfield slid the puck to Steve Regier at the side of the net. Regier returned the pass to Strachan crashing the goal and deposited it into the open net at 6:02 of the third period.

Brodeur made 25 saves through the first two periods but Peoria scored twice on just four shots in the third.

Jonas Junland beat Brodeur on a shorthanded breakaway with 1:45 remaining in regulation to give the Rivermen some insurance. Over of the past six games for the Rivermen, Friday's win is the only game decided by more than one goal.
