Marlies Sign Defenceman Joe Ryan to PTO

Jeff Jackson, General Manager of the Toronto Marlies, announced today that the club has signed defenceman Joe Ryan to a professional try-out contract. In keeping with club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Ryan, 21, is in his first professional season with the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL. In 20 games this season with the Cyclones, he's collected seven points (one goal, six assists) and 31 penalty minutes. The 6'1, 204-pound defenceman ranks second (tie) on the club's defence with six assists.

The Stoneham, MA native played five seasons from 2003-2008 in the QMJHL with the Quebec Remparts and Gatineau Olympiques. During the 2005-06 season, Ryan was a teammate of current Marlie Brent Aubin on the Memorial Cup champion Quebec Remparts.

Ryan was originally selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the second-round, 48th overall, in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

The Marlies return to action tonight at Ricoh Coliseum against the Lake Erie Monsters - AHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche - at 7:00 pm. Toronto travels to Syracuse to take on the Crunch - AHL affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets - on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The Marlies then return home to host their QEW-rival, the Hamilton Bulldogs - AHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens - on Sunday, December 14 at 4:00 p.m. Tonight's and Sunday's home games will air live on Rogers TV Cable 10 in Toronto and 63 in Scarborough.
