December 12, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in their 17th season in the American Hockey League, announced that defenseman Josh Engel has been signed to a Professional Tryout Agreement. With the move, the P-Bruins have 23 players on their roster, including 14 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders.

Engel, 24, originally joined Providence on December 4 and appeared in one game, going scoreless with a minus-two rating, before his release on December 9. The defenseman, who began the year with the ECHL's Gwinnett Gladiators, then returned to Gwinnett and has since played in one contest. Engel has nine points (2g, 7a) in 18 ECHL games this year, highlighted by two three-game scoring-streaks. His first pro goal came on October 18 against the Mississippi Sea Wolves.

Engel is in his second professional season and first full year after a brief stint at the AHL level in 2007-08 with the Albany River Rats following his senior campaign for the University of Wisconsin Badgers. He made his pro debut last year for Albany on April 4 at the Norfolk Admirals while adding his first pro point with an assist. The blue-liner appeared in his first professional playoff game two weeks later on April 18 at the Philadelphia Phantoms.

An undrafted native of Rice Lake, Wisconsin, Engel recorded 17 points (3g, 14a) and 48 penalty minutes in 100 collegiate games for the Badgers. As a sophomore, Engel helped lead Wisconsin to the 2006 NCAA Division 1 National Championship over the Boston College Eagles for the school's fifth title.

Providence Bruins season tickets, Flex Tix packages and single game tickets are on sale now for the 2008-09 season. To purchase tickets or to learn more information, call the P-Bruins ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or log on to the team website at providencebruins.com.
