November 7, 2003 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BRIDGEPORT, CT â The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, the top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, will finish a stretch of five straight road games with two contests in as many nights this weekend. The Sound Tigers will visit the Providence Bruins tomorrow, Saturday, November 8th, at 7:05 p.m. and the Philadelphia Phantoms Sunday at 6:05 p.m. Both of this weekend's games will be broadcast live on 600 WICC-AM and at www.soundtigers.com.
The Sound Tigers are 3-0 on the road trip so far. They beat the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 4-1 on Saturday, October 25th and swept a two-game set with the Utah Grizzlies last weekend winning 6-2 on Friday, October 31st and 2-1 in overtime on Saturday, November 1st.
Center Justin Mapletoft was recalled by the Islanders earlier this week and played in the big club's 4-1 home win over the Dallas Stars last night on Long Island. In addition, Forward Martin Chabada has left the Sound Tigers to return to his native Czech Republic. However, Right Wing Mattias Weinhandl, on assignment to the Sound Tigers from the Islanders while recovering from off-season ankle surgery, is slated to return this weekend. Defensemen Alain Nasreddine, who has missed the entire season due to a back injury, and Cole Jarrett, who has been bothered by a high ankle sprain, are both also ready to play.
The Sound Tigers' next home game at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard will be on Veterans' Day, this coming Tuesday, November 11th, when they host the Norfolk Admirals at 4:05 p.m. This coming Tuesday will be "Military Appreciation Day" with free tickets for all military personnel who wear their uniform or show proper identification at the Harbor Yard box office on the day of the game, as well as special ticket prices for friends and family.
Commander James Wargo, Jr. of the American Legion 3rd District of Connecticut and a native of Greenwich will take part in a ceremonial puck drop prior to Tuesday's game. Commander Wargo is a United States Air Force Veteran who has been awarded the Purple Heart, the Gold Medal of Merit and two Battle Stars.
Sound Tigers individual-game tickets are on sale at the Harbor Yard box office Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., Saturday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and on all game days, as well as on-line at www.ticketmaster.com or by calling Ticketmaster at 203-368-1000.
