Three goal third period lifts Ducks past Americans

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Tony Martensson, Casey Hankinson and Alexei Smirnov each had a goal and an assist in the third period to lead the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks to a 3-1 victory over the Rochester Americans Friday at Cincinnati Gardens.

Rochester mustered just 15 shots, the fewest faced by Cincinnati this season..

Martensson's goal was his first since March 29 of last season. He had been stymied on his first 27 shots in the opening 11 games. A season ago, he had three goals at this point and finished with 17.

Ilya Bryzgalov made 14 saves for Cincinnati to improve to 4-1-0 with a 1.61 goals-against average and .931 save percentage over his last five starts.

Derek Roy had the lone goal and Ryan Miller finished with 19 saves in the loss for Rochester, which is winless in its last three games (0-2-1-0).

The Ducks, 4-1-2-0 in their last seven games, face Toronto at 7:35 p.m. tonight at Cincinnati Gardens. The first 2,500 fans will receive a free Mighty Ducks team photo, courtesy of Biggs.
