Bridgeport Islanders News Release
HARTFORD, Conn. - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers shut out the Hartford Wolf Pack Friday night with a 3-0 win at XL Center. Anders Nilsson stopped all 33 Hartford shots while Mike Halmo, Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Anders Lee all scored goals. Lee and Halmo remain tied for the team lead in goals, each with 11. With the win, the Sound Tigers improve to 11-13-1-3.
The Sound Tigers killed off three penalties in the first period, including 1:23 of a Hartford two-man advantage late in the first period. Nilsson was stellar in the first, stopping all 16 shots he faced. The Sound Tigers tested Wolf Pack goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris in the first, as well, but Grumet-Morris made all 11 saves as the team's went back to the dressing room without a goal.
It remained scoreless through the first half of the second period, but at 12:29, the Sound Tigers made a breakthrough on the power play. Dallas Jackson sent the puck down low to Lee, who found Halmo with a backdoor pass at the left post. Halmo had a wide-open net to shoot at and buried it to give the Sound Tigers a 1-0 lead.
The Sound Tigers extended their lead in the third period thanks to Bouchard's goal at 4:46. Scooter Vaughan had the puck in the Sound Tigers zone and launched a stretch pass up the middle for Bouchard. He was clearly ahead of the defense and walked in on a breakaway to beat Grumet-Morris and make it 2-0 Sound Tigers.
Lee's goal was also on the power play and made it a three-goal Sound Tigers lead. It came on a two-man advantage opportunity as Bouchard sent the puck in front to Lee, who tipped it past Grumet-Morris for the goal. The Sound Tigers finished the game 2-for-7 on the power play and 6-for-6 on the penalty kill.
The Sound Tigers return to action Saturday night at Webster Bank Arena for a 7 p.m. contest against the Manchester Monarchs.
