B-Sens Defeat Crunch 5-2, Snap Losing Streak

SYRACUSE, NY - The Binghamton Senators snapped its seven game losing streak with a 5-2 win Friday night over the Syracuse Crunch.

The Crunch started the scoring on a power play 2:05 into the first period when Brett Connolly put home a rebound off a point shot by Matt Taormina beating B-Sens goaltender Nathan Lawson. Syracuse capitalized on another power play opportunity later in the period when Cedric Paquette one-timed a backdoor pass from Jon DiSalvatore giving the Crunch a 2-0 lead going into the first intermission. Despite trailing, the B-Sens outshot the Crunch 8-5 in the opening frame.

The Senators tied up the game in the second period with two goals coming 14 minutes apart. Fredrik Claesson put the B-Sens on the board with his first goal of the season, sneaking a quick shot past Crunch goaltender Kristers Gudlevskis. With only 48 seconds remaining in the middle period, Mike Hoffman tied the game with his 13th goal of the season. Stephane Da Costa picked up the primary assist creating the high bouncing rebound that Hoffman batted in over Gudlevskis' shoulder. Lawson rebounded with a strong second period turning away all 10 shots faced while Gudlevskis turned away eight of 10 shots.

The final frame brought three more unanswered goals from the Senators and secured the win. The game winning goal came from Mark Stone during a four minute long power play opportunity. Stone put home a shot from the top right circle while Hoffman and Chris Wideman picked up the assists at 8:27. Jim O'Brien picked up his third goal of the season at the 18:19 mark of the period with help from Cole Schneider and Wideman. David Dziurzynski gave the Senators extra insurance sliding the puck into the Crunch's empty net with only 13 seconds remaining.

Lawson improved to 9-4-0 for the season stopping 18 of 20 shots faced after missing the past three games. Gudlevskis stopped 31 of 35 shots faced in the losing effort and fell to 5-3-1 for the season. Wideman led the B-Sens in points for the night with three assists while Hoffman finished his night with one goal and one assist.

Binghamton will return to home ice tomorrow night when they welcome the Albany Devils in a 7:05p.m. contest at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
