Texas Stars News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - The Texas Stars had their franchise record-tying six-game winning streak ended by a former Star as goaltender Richard Bachman turned in a herculean 39-save effort to lead the Oklahoma City Barons to a 2-0 shutout victory Friday night at Cox Convention Center.
The first period was a scoreless affair where Texas out-shot the Barons 14-6, but could not solve Oklahoma City goaltender Richard Bachman, who made dazzling saves throughout the opening frame.
The Stars continued their shots advantage in the second period, but it was the Barons who scored first. Martin Gernat's slap shot from the blue line hit teammate Roman Horak in front and Andrew Miller knocked in the loose puck to make it 1-0 Barons at 5:21. Bachman continued his heroics with a stunning save to steal a far post chance from Mike Hedden and then the Oklahoma City back stop denied Toby Petersen on a shorthanded partial breakaway. Late in the period the Barons doubled their lead with a power play goal at 14:50. Will Acton's shot from the left wing was kicked out by Cristopher Nilstorp's left pad, but it went right to C.J. Stretch, who one-timed it into the net. The Stars out-shot the Barons 30-18 through 40 minutes, but trailed 2-0.
Chances were more limited in the third period, with Texas holding a slim 9-8 advantage. The Stars would pull Nilstorp for an extra attacker in the final 90 seconds, but Bachman stood tall to complete the shutout.
Richard Bachman stopped all 39 shots he faced to record his first shutout of the season in goal for Oklahoma City. Cristopher Nilstorp finished with 24 saves on 26 shots in goal for Texas as his personal three-game winning streak came to an end. The Stars out-shot the Barons 39-26 and went 0-for-4 on the power play, while Oklahoma City was 1-for-3 on the man-advantage. It was only the second time in the last 11 games that Texas did not score at least one power play goal.
