Solar Bears lose 6-5

Estero, FL - The Orlando Solar Bears jumped out to an early lead but dropped a 6-5 decision to the Florida Everblades at the Germain Arena on Saturday night.
Fireworks opened up the contest as F Trevor Gillies engaged in his first fight as a Solar Bear, going toe-to-toe with Everblades D Tyson Gimblett just two seconds [image: Zach Harrison] into the game. The Solar Bears then opened up a 3-0 lead in a 50 second span, starting when F Jacob Cepis capped off a 2-on-1 chance on a feed from F Mickey Lang at 7:48. D Eric Baier boosted the lead to 2-0 when he slipped a shot inside the right post 33 seconds later. F Mike Duco capped off the 50 second scoring burst when he deflected a shot from D Zachary Yuen past G Riku Helenius at 8:38, putting Orlando ahead 3-0. Florida answered at 13:07 when F Trevor Bruess slipped behind the Solar Bears defense and finished off a breakaway, but Orlando held the 3-1 lead going into the first intermission. Duco knocked home his second of the game at 8:48 of the middle frame. D Blake Kessel held a puck in along the right point and fired a shot at the net. Duco was camped out just outside of the goal crease and deflected the puck into the cage for the power play goal as Orlando grabbed a 4-1 advantage. D Bryce Lampman answered for the Everblades under three minutes later when he teed up a slap shot and put the puck inside the left post. Before the end of the frame, Cepis collected his second goal of the net when Lang lifted a pass onto his stick in front of the net, and Cepis slipped in a backhand shot to put the Solar Bears ahead 5-2.
The final frame belonged to the Everblades. First, F Carl Nielson struck on a diving shot that got under the crossbar three minutes into the period. Next, F Mathieu Roy made it a one goal contest with a breakaway goal midway through the period. F Mike Merrifield tied the game at 5-5 on a rebound goal with 12:25 to go, and D Olivier Dame-Malka finished off the comeback with a slap shot through traffic with 3:17 remaining for the final goal of the night as the Solar Bears fell 6-5.
