Kalamazoo, MI - Bouncing back from a loss the night before, the Kalamazoo Wings defeated the Gwinnett Gladiators 5-4 Saturday night during ZOOperstars! Night presented by Zoetis.

Matt Caria wasted no time in continuing his scoring dominance. Caria (10th, 11th) netted two goals in the opening period. Finding a loose puck behind Paul Karpowich, Caria extended his point streak to eight games two minutes into the contest.

On their lone power-play of the period, Caria scored his second tally of the night two seconds into the one man advantage on a backhander.

Rob Kwiet (5th) responded with a power-play strike late in the opening period by scoring a wrister from the right circle.

Building their lead back to two goals, Ryan Del Monte (7th) lit the lamp on a Justin Taylor rebound 11:56 into the second period.

Trying to clear the puck during a five-minute power-play, Karpowich came out of the net and had his pass intercepted by Taylor, who beat the netminder back to the net for his seventh goal of the season giving the K-Wings their league-best 10th shorthanded tally of the year.

Following the goal, the Gladiators pulled Karpowich in favor of Brad Phillips. Karpowich left the game allowing four goals and making 16 saves in 34:54 between the pipes.

Back-to-back tallies from Casey Pierro-Zabotel (1st) and Brenden Walker (8th) in a span of 29 seconds cut the K-Wings lead to a single goal.

Gwinnett pulled even 1:27 into the third period with a strike from Joey Haddad (6th) to force overtime.

In the extra session, Kalamazoo recorded their third special teams goal of the net with a power-play slap shot from Sam Ftorek (7th) with 21.7 seconds remaining.

Kalamazoo will travel to the Ford Center to battle the Evansville IceMen this Monday, January 20th for a special 1:05 p.m. (CDT) encounter.
