Colorado Eagles News Release
ONTARIO, Calif. - The Colorado Eagles (20-10-4-2) rallied to score four unanswered goals to triumph, 5-4, over the Ontario Reign (25-6-2-3) at Citizens Business Bank Arena on Friday night.
Two minutes and forty-five seconds into the first frame, Reign defenseman Art Bidlevskii found the back of the net from the blue line to give Ontario the 1-0 advantage. Ontario defenseman Jake Newton beat Eagles netminder Marc Cheverie just over three minutes later to pump the Reign's lead 2-0. Colorado was quick to answer that goal as Daniel Johnston netted a mishandled puck to get the Eagles on the board, 2-1. The Reign's blue line was on fire as Ontario's third defenseman, Matthew Clune, scored to give the Reign a 3-1 lead. Newton scored his second goal in the first ten minutes to stretch Ontario to a 4-1 lead over the Eagles. Colorado forward Luke Fulghum cut the Reign's lead, 4-2, 10:21 into the first to finish out the scoring frenzy that was the first period.
Eagles forward Kevin Ulanski beat Ontario goalie Jussi Olkinuora, blocker side, to make it a 4-3, one-goal game 6:06 into the second period. Ten minutes later, Colorado forward Greg Gardner tied the game, 4-4, with the first power-play goal of the game.
The Eagles and the Reign headed into the sudden death overtime after a scoreless third period kept the score tied at 4. Ulanski scored the fourth unanswered goal of the game for the Eagles on a breakaway to achieve the 5-4 overtime win.
The Eagles go head-to-head with the Reign again on Saturday, January 18.
