Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Gerald Coleman earned his first win of the season on 22 saves and the Alaska Aces (23-9-3, 49 points) blasted a season high 50 shots on goal en route to a 3-2 comeback shootout win over the Las Vegas Wranglers before 4,721 fans at Sullivan Arena on Friday.
The Aces, who earned their first come-from-behind victory of the season when trailing after two periods, extended their unbeaten streak in regulation to seven games and were boosted by shootout goals from Peter Sivak, Brendan Connolly and Shawn Skelly (game winner in the fifth round).
Coleman outdueled Travis Fullerton, who stopped 47 shots.
Drew MacKenzie got the Aces on the board at 15:36 of the first period after a giveaway in the Wranglers zone. Peter Sivak jumped on the puck in the right corner and wired a pass to MacKenzie in the slot, who buried a wrist shot past Travis Fullerton.
Las Vegas responded with a pair of shocking goals in the second period to assume a 2-1 lead, beginning with Matt Tassone's eighth of the season at 5:18 on a redirection at the net. Chad Nehring then pumped in a power play goal at 14:07, finishing a one-touch feed in front for his third goal.
Ross Ring-Jarvi finished off a brilliant feed at the front by Mathew Sisca, threading a pass through two defenders from the left corner, for his sixth goal of the season at 4:05 of the third period to level the game, 2-2.
The Aces pumped 14 shots on goal in the third period and had five more in overtime, not including a slapshot by Tommy Mele that missed the net from between the circles.
Sivak and Chad Nehring exchanged shootout goals in the first round and Connolly put the Aces ahead on a wrist shot that trickled off Fullerton's pads in the third round. After Coleman's stop on Jeff May in the fourth round, Skelly put the game away when he snuck a wrister past Fullerton and celebrated with a full fist pump at center ice.
