Beloit Sky Carp News Release

BELOIT, WI - The Beloit Snappers dropped the series finale to the Great Lake Loons by a final score of 6-5 in a close contest Thursday afternoon. The Snappers ended the game outhitting the Loons, but unfortunately, fell on the wrong side of the run column to drop their fifth straight.

In the finale, the Snappers got the scoring started in the first after a leadoff triple from Lester Madden to open up play this morning. Two batters later, Nick Ward hit an RBI groundout to plate Madden and the Snappers first run of the game.

The bats would not stop in the first for the Snappers, as in the second, Beloit would get a huge lift from shortstop Marcos Brito who smashed his first home run of the year. The solo shot extended the Snappers lead to 2-0 and was the team's ninth homer on the season.

However, the Snappers lead would not hold, as Great Lakes would answer back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the second to take their first lead of the game.

In the second and Great Lakes already with one run, the Loons would put runners on first and second with two away against Snappers starter Aiden McIntyre. McIntyre would bear down and strike out Loons' Chris Roller, but the ball would get away from Snappers catcher, John Jones, in turn leading to an errant throw that would allow both runs to score for Great Lakes.

Great Lakes would tally on one more run in the fourth before the Snappers would get back into the scoring action in the top of the fifth, now down 4-2.

In the fifth, Cobie Vance would start the inning off with a leadoff walk and swipe second base to give the Snappers a runner in scoring position down by two. After two strikeouts by Loons starter, Jeronimo Castro, the Snappers would break through with an RBI Single from Ryan Gridley driving in Vance to cut the deficit to one.

The Snappers would not be done there in the fifth, as Nick Ward singled into right field plating Gridley and tying the game at 4 a piece going to the bottom of the fifth.

The Loons bats would not stay quiet though, as Great Lakes scored another run in the fifth to retake the lead 5-4. After a couple of zeroes thrown up on the scoreboard by both teams, Beloit would get a run in the eighth off an RBI SAC Fly from Logan Farrar to even the game at 5.

That score would not hold for long, as Great Lakes would get a run in the bottom of the eighth to retake the lead and ultimately win the game to earn the series sweep.

The Snappers will be back in action tomorrow when they take on Lansing Lugnuts to finish up this six-game road trip before returning home on Monday. Chase Cohen is scheduled to get the start for Beloit in Game 1 of a 3 game set in Lansing, Michigan.
