Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
LANSING, MI - The Lansing Lugnuts scored in six of the eight innings in which they batted and they battered the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 10-4 at Cooley Law School Stadium. DJ Neal lead the attack as he homered, reached five times, and scored four runs for the Lugnuts.
Lansing (12-14) scored in the bottom of the second to take the lead. Neal singled with one out, stole second, and went to third on a throwing error. Jake Brodt put the Lugnuts in front with a single to center.
Connor McVey tied the game with a solo home run in the top of the fourth. The longball was the first homer of the season for McVey.
Neal put Lansing back in front in the bottom of the fourth when he blasted a two-run home run to left-center. Later in the inning a two-out RBI single by Hagen Danner put the Lugnuts up 5-1.
Wisconsin (12-13) scraped a run across the plate in the top of the sixth inning. Yeison Coca beat out a potential inning-ending double play to keep the inning alive. David Fry followed with a single. Chad McClanahan was next and he ripped a double to right to score Coca.
Danner put the Lugnuts back up by four runs with a two-out, RBI single in the bottom of the sixth.
The Rattlers got close again in the top of the seventh inning with two runs. Jesús Lujano doubled to start the inning. Korry Howell singled to drive in Lujano. McVey sent Howell home with a two-out single and the Rattlers were down 6-4.
Lansing took advantage of a bout of wildness from reliever Yohandry Pérez, who made his professional debut when he entered the game in the bottom of the eighth. Pérez walked the first three batters he faced to load the bases. A wild pitch let one run home. Johnny Aiello drove in the other two runs with a single.
Two Wisconsin errors led to one more run for the Lugnuts in the bottom of the eighth inning to account for the final score.
The Rattlers did win the series as they took two the first two games of the series from Lansing, but the loss denied them their first-ever road sweep of the Lugnuts.
The road trip continues for the Timber Rattlers on Friday when they will face the Great Lakes Loons at Dow Diamond. Justin Bullock (2-1, 6.75) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin. The Loons have named Stephen Kolek (1-2, 6.33) as their starter. Game time is 5:05pm CDT. The radio broadcast is on AM1280, WNAM and the TuneIn Radio app starting with the Papa John's Pizza Pregame Show at 4:45pm. MiLB.tv subscribers can watch the game over the internet.
