Shawn Germain Named HOK Sport ECHL Plus Performer of Month for December

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League and the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, today announced that defenseman Shawn Germain ("JER MAIN") has been named the HOK Sport ECHL Plus Performer of the Month for December after finishing the month with a plus-minus rating of +12 in thirteen games for the Royals. Germain (6'1"/195 lbs.) (24), a second year pro from Saint Paul, Alberta, played 'even' or better in twelve of the thirteen ECHL games he played in December. On December 16, he played to a personal season high +3 (and picked up an assist) in the Royals' 3-1 win over the Toledo Storm. In the first AHL game of his pro career on December 30 with the Hershey Bears, Germain played to a +2 in the Bears' 7-4 win over the Norfolk Admirals. Germain, who also played for Royals' Head Coach Karl Taylor at the University of Waterloo in the 2004-05, has only been a minus in three of his thirty-two games with the Royals this season, during which he has racked up eight assists and twenty-nine penalty minutes. Germain currently leads the Royals in plus-minus at +16.

The Royals complete a four game road trip in Wheeling, West Virginia on Friday night (7:35 pm) before returning to the Sovereign Center for back-to-back games (Saturday, 7:05 pm; Sunday, 4:35 pm) against the Cincinnati Cyclones. Royals' game night broadcasts can be heard live on ESPN Radio 1240 am (and on the internet through the Royals' website, www.royalshockey.com), beginning thirty minutes before the opening face-off. Streaming video is also available for $6.00 per game through the B2 Networks, which can be accessed through the Royals' website.
