Dayton Bombers News Release

Dayton, OH- The Dayton Bombers and Cincinnati Cyclones entered Tuesday in a battle for first place in the North Division, a battle won by the Cyclones 3-2 at the Nutter Center.

The Cyclones took an early 1-0 lead on a one-timer from Sam Ftorek who put it past Bombers starter Adam Berkhoel at the 15:33 mark of the opening period. Despite being out shot by the Bombers 11-6, Cincinnati took the 1-0 lead into the locker room.

The Bombers, looking for the equalizer early in the second continued to put constant pressure on Cyclones starter Dov Grumet-Morris, with 12 more shots to the Cyclones five in the second period. However one of those five Cyclones shots went by Berkhoel, as Cyclones Captain Chad Starling deflected the puck of Berkhoel's shoulder to make it 2-0 at the 13:42 of the second. Again Grumet-Morris held his ground and the Cyclones had a two goal lead after 40 minutes.

Cincinnati entered the night with a 14-1-0 record when leading after two periods of play and early in the third they added one more to it. Jason Deitsch broke in short-handed and made a nice move around Berkhoel to make it 3-0 at the 3:24 mark. The Bombers just could not get anything going or find a way to get one past Grumet-Morris, until just over the halfway point of the period.

That's when Paul Kelly and Yannick Tifu answered the Deitsch short-handed goal with one of their own, as Kelly fed a perfect pass across the crease to Tifu, who then slid it home to cut the deficit to two at 3-1 at the 11:25 mark. Just over six minutes later, the Bombers found themselves only trailing by one, when Kelly found a rebound from Petr Pohl and Mike Berry's initial shots to stuff it home at the 17:46 mark. The Bombers, feeling momentum just kept coming and coming at the Cyclones, but it just would not be enough in the 3-2 defeat to Cincinnati.

The Bombers remain in second place in the division with an overall record of 16-9-3 (35 points), four points behind the Cyclones 18-12-3 (39 points). Cincinnati now leads the Cricket Cup series 5-3 overall, but the Bombers picked up a point in a shootout loss and are 3-4-1 against the Cyclones on the season.

The Bombers return to the Nutter Center Friday, January 12, at 7:00 p.m. to take on the Johnstown Chiefs.
