Reading's Germain Named HOK Sport ECHL Plus Performer Of The Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Reading defenseman Shawn Germain is the HOK Sport ECHL Plus Performer of the Month for December after finishing with a plus-minus rating of +12 in 13 games.

The 6-foot-1 and 195-pound Germain was even or better in every game but one in December and in the first three months of the season he was minus only two times in 28 games. He had an assist and was a season-high +3 in a 3-1 win at Toledo on Dec. 16 and was +2 on Dec. 8 against Cincinnati, Dec. 21 at Charlotte and Dec. 27 at Trenton.

In his second professional season, the 24-year-old has eight assists in 32 games for the Royals and he is tied for third in the ECHL in plus-minus rating at +16. He has also played one game in the American Hockey League for the Calder Cup champion Hershey Bears where he was +2.

Germain played his first professional season in the Central Hockey League where he had 11 points (2g-9a) in 55 regular season games and two points (1g-1a) in seven playoff games for Oklahoma City.

He played for Reading coach Karl Taylor at the University of Waterloo in 2004-05 where he had 13 points (1g-12a) in 24 games. He also played at Grant MacEwan College in 2003-04 and had eight points (1g-7a) in 24 games.
