Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Defenseman Zack Fitzgerald, a popular figure in Anchorage despite just 12 games in an Aces sweater, has been re-assigned to Alaska by its AHL affiliate, the Peoria Rivermen.

The 21-year-old Fitzgerald will suit up for the Aces this weekend when Victoria pays a visit to Sullivan Arena for three games in three nights, beginning Friday at 7:15 p.m. He has appeared in 11 games this season for Peoria, handing out one assist and accumulating 40 minutes in penalties.

Originally a third-round pick of the St. Louis Blues in 2003, Fitzgerald spent four seasons with Seattle in the Western Hockey League, twice scoring at least 20 points for the Thunderbirds and three times surpassing 200 PIM. In his very first pro game, Zack had an assist and a fighting major for the Aces in a 3-1 win over Bakersfield October 28, 2005. Two nights later, he set a team record with 37 PIM in a 4-0 shutout of the Condors. Fitzgerald's first pro goal came in a 5-1 victory over Fresno December 4, 2005, and he was called up to Peoria on Christmas Day. He scored his first AHL goal one week after that, on New Year's Eve, 2005.

Alaska owns a 6-1-1 record against Victoria and is 20-10-2 overall, good enough for a four-point lead in the West Division, heading into this weekend's series, which continues Saturday at 7:15 p.m. and Sunday at 5:05 p.m. The series finale marks the first Fred Meyer "Skate with the Aces." Tickets for this week's games against the Salmon Kings (12-20-1 heading into tonight's game at Las Vegas) are available at www.alaskaaces.com or by calling 258-ACES.
