Portland Sea Dogs News Release

Binghamton, NY- A beautiful day turned ugly quick as the Portland Sea Dogs lost to the Binghamton Mets 10-4 on Thursday afternoon. The Sea Dogs committed two errors and allowed four unearned runs as part of a five-run second inning for the Mets. Binghamton wasted no time in gaining the upper hand against Stolmy Pimentel (0-9) snapping Portland's three game win streak.

The Sea Dogs took the lead in the top of the first inning against Brandon Moore (6-7). Tim Federowicz came through with a two-out RBI single to score Alex Hassan. The Mets quickly came back in the bottom half thanks to an RBI single by Allan Dykstra. Moore then threw a perfect second frame, while the opposite was true for Pimentel.

Binghamton loaded the bases on two walks and a single. Then, Reynaldo Rodriguez booted a routine ground ball from Jose Coronado, allowing two runs to score. The next batter, Matt den Dekker, put a roller under the glove of Oscar Tejeda to bring in another run on the second consecutive error. Josh Satin then blew the game open with a two-run double, knocking Pimentel out of the game with Binghamton in front 6-1. Only two of the six runs on Pimentel's line were earned.

On the other side, Moore retired 17 of 19 Portland batters from the last out of the first inning, to the first out of the seventh inning. The only hit he gave up in that time was a double to Will Middlebrooks who extended his hitting streak to six games.

Miguel Gonzalez came on in relief of Pimentel and struck out a season-high six batters over three and one-third innings. He allowed two runs on a home run and an RBI double, both against Mets' catcher Dusty Ryan. Junichi Tazawa went the final three for Portland, yielding just two runs including den Dekker's first Double-A long ball.

Rodriguez added a two-run double for the Sea Dogs in the eighth inning. He now has 69 RBI on the season between Portland and Advanced-A Salem, the most of any player in the Red Sox system. Chih-Hsien Chiang tacked on an RBI single in the ninth to round out the scoring.

Despite the loss, the Sea Dogs leave having won the series three games to two against the Mets. Portland is now 8-3 in its last 11 games and has won two of its last three series away from Hadlock Field. Over the course of the five game series, the team hit .321 (53-for-165) and averaged more than seven runs per game.

The Sea Dogs' road trip continues tomorrow night in New Hampshire against the first-place Fisher Cats. Portland and New Hampshire meet for four games prior to the All-Star break. After the break, the Sea Dogs are back at Hadlock Field for a seven-game homestand starting July 14th. That night will also feature a Clay Buchholz Bobblehead giveaway.
