
Aeros Take Series From Curve Behind Packer's Solid Outing

ALTOONA, PA - Left-handed pitcher Matt Packer allowed just two earned runs over seven innings of work as the Akron Aeros won the finale of a four-game series against the Altoona Curve 4-2 Thursday at Blair County Ballpark.
With the win, the Aeros (44-43) have taken three of four from Altoona.
Packer picked up the win for Akron scattering seven hits and striking out five while walking one. Right-handed pitcher Cory Burns pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning to earn his league-best 23rd save of the season.
Right-hander Michael Colla suffered the loss for the Curve lasting five innings, giving up four earned runs on seven hits, walking three and striking out two.
The Aeros scored first in the top of the second inning. With one out, Raul Padron and Tyler Cannon laced back-to-back doubles to give Akron a 1-0 lead
Padron clubbed a two-run home run in the top of the third inning to give the Aeros a 3-0 lead.
Akron added a run in the top of the fifth inning. Juan Diaz led off with a walk and stole second. Beau Mills moved him to third with a single and Michel Hernandez worked a walk to load the bases. Padron followed with a sacrifice fly scoring Diaz and giving Akron a 4-0 lead.
The Curve (37-48) scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning, but drew no closer as Akron went on to a series win.
The Aeros will head home to begin a four-game series against the Erie SeaWolves Friday. Akron will give the ball to right-handed pitcher Austin Adams, who is 5-8 with a 4.38 ERA in 2011. He will face left-handed pitcher Jay Voss, who is 4-3 with a 3.80 ERA this season. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard on Fox Sports 1350 AM or online at sportsradio1350.com.
