Altoona Curve News Release

CURVE, Pa. - First baseman Raul Padron had a hand in all four of the Akron Aeros runs as they led early and held on late in a 4-2 win against the Altoona Curve on Thursday at Blair County Ballpark. The win earns the series victory for the Aeros, taking three-of-four from the Curve.

Unlike the past two games, the Aeros jumped ahead with the game's first run as Padron provided the visiting team's offensive punch. Off Curve starter Mike Colla, Padron helped build a 3-0 by the end of the third as he scored a run in the second after a smash double to center and he brought two runs home on a home run in the third.

The Aeros added a fourth run in the fifth, as it was Padron again with a sacrifice fly, before the Curve would get on the scoreboard. Despite having sour results in his six previous starts, the Curve had trouble against Akron starter Matt Packer, who worked the first five innings of the contest without allowing a run.

Down 4-0 in the sixth, Brock Holt led the inning off with a single, and remained at first base for back-to-back fly ball outs to center before Tony Sanchez stepped to the plate. With two down, Sanchez doubled to the wall in right, scoring Holt, before the next batter, Matt Curry, singled to drive in Sanchez to cut the Akron advantage in half at 4-2.

Packer (3-8) worked one more inning and went seven total, allowing two runs on seven hits. He had not allowed two runs or less in any of his previous six starts before Thursday in Altoona. For the Curve, Colla (4-5) went five innings and allowed four runs on seven hits.

Behind Colla, Matt McSwain worked 1.1 scoreless before he gave way to Bryan Morris, who was good for his 1.2 innings of work. Keeping the Aeros at four runs in the ninth was Anthony Claggett, who pitched in a scoreless inning.

The Curve have had trouble all series with the Akron bullpen as, collectively, the Aeros 'pen did not allow a single run in ten innings during the entire four-game series. On Thursday, Adam Miller worked a scoreless eighth inning before, the league leader in saves, Cory Burns, pitched a clean ninth for his 23rd save of the season.

With the series over with Akron, the Bowie Baysox enter town on Friday at 7 p.m and there will be an Al Tuna Bobble-body Giveaway for the first 1,000 fans through the gates courtesy of UniFirst. It's also the fifth Galliker's Kids' Club Night of the season with members of the free Kids' Club receiving a free ticket to the game and a FRITOS Family Friday, where fans will be selected to participate in awesome ballpark experiences. Kids will also get to run the bases after the game.
