
Scranton Hurlers Shut out PawSox, 6-0

(Moosic, PA) - Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starter Chad Green tossed six shutout innings and combined with two relievers on a five-hitter as the RailRiders blanked the Pawtucket Red Sox, 6-0, in the opener of a four-game series on Monday night at PNC Field.
Scranton pitchers struck out 13 batters, with Green (2-3) collecting nine in his six innings of work. Mark Montgomery tossed two perfect innings with four punchouts while Tyler Webb pitched the ninth and induced a double-play grounder to finish the game.
Pawtucket (14-17) dropped its third straight overall, and the RailRiders (17-15) improved to 4-0 against the PawSox this season.
Scranton struck for a pair of runs in the first against Pawtucket starter Brian Johnson (1-3) thanks to three doubles. Rob Refsnyder and Slade Heathcott connected on consecutive two-out, two-baggers to make the score 2-0 after one inning.
The 'Riders doubled the lead in the fourth thanks to an RBI single from Pete Kozma and a sacrifice fly by Donovan Solano. Aaron Judge drilled his seventh home run of the season in Johnson's final inning, the seventh, to make the score 5-0.
Johnson permitted five runs (all earned) on nine hits while throwing a season-high 103 pitches. Roman Mendez allowed one run on two hits and a walk in the eighth inning.
Chris Marrero paced Pawtucket's five-hit attack by going 2-for-4 including a double. Heathcott, Nick Swisher and Kozma each recorded a pair of Scranton's 11 hits on the night.
The PawSox play game two of their four-game series in Scranton on Tuesday morning at 10:35 a.m. Pawtucket southpaw Henry Owens (1-1, 1.00) is scheduled to make the start against RailRiders' righty Kyle Haynes (1-0, 3.62). Radio coverage begins on WHJJ (920 AM) and throughout the PawSox radio network at 10:05 a.m.
