Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs will open a four-game set with the Columbus Clippers on Monday night at Huntington Park with first pitch of game one slated for 6:35 p.m. The Pigs enter play at 15-14 on the season and are tied for second in the North Division after splitting a two-game set with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre over the weekend. Columbus owns the best record in the IL at 18-11, but did drop two of three to Toledo this weekend.
RHP Jake Thompson (1-3, 4.85) gets the ball for the Pigs in the series opener on Monday night. Thompson had his best start of the season on Tuesday vs. Pawtucket when he got a no-decision after giving up one run on two hits while walking two and fanning four in seven innings of work.
LHP Ryan Merritt (2-2, 3.30) heads to the hill for the Clippers to oppose Thompson. The southpaw earned the win in his last outing on Tuesday vs. Charlotte when he allowed two runs on four hits to go along with a walk and six strikeouts in 7.0 IP. Over his 5 GS this season, Merritt has walked just five batters in 30.0 IP.
After tossing a pair of scoreless innings on Sunday, Pigs RHP Severino Gonzalez extended his hitting streak to 9.0 IP and has allowed just an unearned run in 10.0 IP with Lehigh Valley this season.
