Steven Moya Named IL Batter of the Week

Mud Hens right fielder Steven Moya has been named the International League Batter of the Week! He hit .458 over the past week and led the IL with 11 hits, four doubles, four home runs, 10 RBI's, eight runs scored, nine extra-base hits, 29 total bases, and a slugging percentage of 1.208.

After collecting three hits, including two doubles, in Monday's 6-2 win at Gwinnett, Moya added four hits with a double and two homers in Tuesday's 12-5 romp over the Braves. He also homered in both Mud Hens victories over Columbus this weekend to push his IL-leading home run total on the season to nine. Moya is also the league leader in RBI's and extra-base hits.

On the season so far, Moya is hitting a .304 with 34 hits and 23 RBI's.

The 24-year-old is in his eighth season as a professional player since being signed by Detroit as an undrafted free agent in 2008. In 2014 he was named MVP of the Double-A Eastern League and Detroit's Minor League Player of the Year. He is a veteran of 20 big league games since 2014. Moya is a native of Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico.
