Gonzalez Recalled to Chicago, Kahnle Re-Joins Knights

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - RHP Miguel Gonzalez, who has compiled a 1-0 record with a 2.65 ERA in four starts with the Charlotte Knights this season, was recalled to the Chicago White Sox today. In two other roster moves, RHP Tommy Kahnle re-joins the Knights after being optioned back to the team from the White Sox after Sunday's game and catcher Alex Avila was returned to Chicago from his Major League Baseball rehab assignment. Charlotte's roster consists of 24 active players.

In all, the Knights have sent eight players to Chicago this season, including RHP Erik Johnson (April 19 & May 5), catcher Kevan Smith (April 24), RHP Miguel Gonzalez (April 25 & May 9), catcher Hector Sanchez (April 26), RHP Daniel Webb (April 27), infielder Carlos Sanchez (April 28), RHP Tommy Kahnle (April 29 & May 5), and RHP Scott Carroll (May 6).

Gonzalez made his Chicago White Sox debut on Monday, April 25 after being promoted from Charlotte that day. The 31-year-old right-hander allowed five runs on 11 hits over 5.1 innings against the Toronto Blue Jays and did not factor in the decision. He was optioned back to the Knights on April 27. Gonzalez is scheduled to start tonight's game for the White Sox against the Texas Rangers.

Kahnle, 26, is 1-0 with one save and a 2.45 ERA in nine games (11.0 IP) with the Knights this season. He tossed a scoreless inning with the White Sox over two stints this season.

Avila, 29, was placed on Chicago's disabled list on April 24 with a strained right hamstring. He went 0-for-8 with three walks in three games with the Knights on his rehab assignment. He is hitting .214 (6-for-28) in 10 games with the White Sox this season. He signed with Chicago as a free agent on December 4, 2015.

The Knights will open a five-game, four-day series against the Norfolk Tides from Harbor Park starting tonight at 6:35 p.m. from Norfolk, VA. Pre-game radio coverage begins at 6:20 p.m. on ESPN 730 AM and CharlotteKnights.com. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call for all of the action of Monday's game.
