Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
Moosic, Pa. - The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) scored their fourth shutout win on Monday night in a 6-0 triumph over the Pawtucket Red Sox. The RailRiders (17-15) improved to 4-0 against the Red Sox (14-17) on the year.
Chad Green (2-3) held Pawtucket to four hits across six scoreless innings. He tied his Triple-A career-best with nine strikeouts while issuing one walk. Brian Johnson (1-3) shouldered the loss, allowing five runs on nine hits in seven innings of work.
SWB jumped out 2-0 in the first inning on doubles by Donovan Solano, Rob Refsnyder and Slade Heathcott. The two-baser by Refsnyder extended his season-best hitting streak to 13 games.
Cesar Puello and Deibinson Romero worked consecutive walks off Johnson to set the table in the fourth. Pete Kozma drilled a single into left field and Puello raced home for a 3-0 lead. Romero advanced to third on the hit and Solano drove him in with a sacrifice fly to center.
Aaron Judge launched a long home run to left-center in the seventh inning to push the advantage to 5-0. It was his second home run in as many days and fifth in nine games. He leads the team with seven for the year.
Heathcott opened the eighth with a single off reliever Roman Mendez. Nick Swisher followed with a base hit, advancing Heathcott to third. Romero stroked a liner into left field that was caught by Bryce Brentz. Heathcott broke home on the fly out. The throw from Brentz beat Heathcott home, but a collision at the plate jarred the ball loose allowing the run to score for the final tally.
Mark Montgomery fired two perfect innings with four strikeouts in relief and Tyler Webb completed the shutout with a scoreless ninth.
It's a quick turn around for the RailRiders and Red Sox on Tuesday morning at PNC Field. Right-hander Kyle Haynes (1-0, 3.62) will face left-hander Henry Owens (1-1, 1.00) of Pawtucket. First pitch for "School Day" is set for 10:35 a.m. For tickets or more information, please call 570-969-BALL (2255) or visit swbrailriders.com.
