Geneva, Illinois - Kane County Cougars (31-27) were shutout by the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (27-30), 6-0, on Wednesday night at Northwestern Medicine Field. It was the fourth shutout loss for the Cougars in 2019.
The Timber Rattlers scored four first inning runs. With two outs, five straight batters reached. Chad McClanahan singled, followed by Brent Diaz's walk. LG Castillo drove in the first run with a single. Korry Howell continued the rally with an RBI single. The final two runs scored off the bat of Je'Von Ward on a throwing error by Cougar second baseman Eddie Hernandez.
All four runs in the first inning were charged to Cougar starter Michel Gelabert, who only recorded two outs in the first before being pulled. Two of the four runs were earned.
The Cougars used the combination of Ryan Miller, Chester Pimentel and Wesley Rodriguez to survive the rest of the night. Miller tossed three scoreless innings, scattering just two hits. Chester Pimentel allowed the fifth and sixth runs of the night, an unearned run in the sixth and a solo homer to David Fry in the seventh. Pimentel set a new season-best with 2.2 innings pitched. Wesley Rodriguez tossed the final 2.2 innings without allowing a run, striking out five.
Wisconsin starting pitcher Scotty Sunitsch (4-5) completed his longest outing of the year with seven shutout innings. He surrendered five hits, struck out four and walked one. Justin Jarvis recorded the final six outs on the mound for Wisconsin.
