Bojarski Headed to MWL All-Star Game
June 5, 2019 - Midwest League (MWL1)
West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The West Michigan Whitecaps will send outfielder Ulrich Bojarski to the 2019 Midwest League All-Star Game at Four Winds Field in South Bend, Indiana on June 18.
The nomination marks the first for Bojarski, who has been designated as a starter for the Eastern Division team. The Midwest League unveiled the rosters on Wednesday based on a vote of league managers. Bowling Green led all Midwest League teams with eight All-Star selections.
Bojarski, originally born in South Africa, raised in Australia and by parents of German descent, leads West Michigan in numerous offensive categories. The outfielder ranks within the top-10 players in the Midwest League in batting average (.309, 7th), home runs (8, T-5th) and RBI (36, T-7th), and total bases (98, 6th) entering play on Wednesday in 53 games. "It's a really good feeling," Bojarski said. "I've always dreamed of making an All-Star Team, and it's finally happened."
Until today's nomination, the 20-year old had never been named an All-Star on any of his teams growing up, but managed to collect a nomination to the All-World team in the Under-23 Baseball World Cup representing Australia in 2018. Bojarski has been one of the standouts among Whitecaps players this season, becoming the first "Caps player to hit for the cycle since Michael Hernandez in 2006 during a game at Burlington on May 5. The following day, Bojarski launched a game-winning, two-run home run to help the Whitecaps beat the Peoria Chiefs by a score of 2-0 on May 6 at Fifth Third Ballpark.
"It feels like all the hard work I've put in this offseason and the year before has finally paid off," Bojarski said. "It really helps your confidence to know that things are working the way you want them to." Entering last season, Bojarski ranked #97 on a list of the "best names in Minor League Baseball," according to MLB.com.
