Beloit Sky Carp News Release

Beloit, WI - The Snappers ran into to trouble early on Tuesday night, and the Bees used their quick start to run away with the series opener in Beloit, 10-4. Richard Guasch (0-1, 10.13) scuffled in his second start as a Snapper while Burlington added insurance late with two home runs against Beloit's bullpen.

Guasch got off to a fantastic start, working around a walk in the first inning to strike out the side. He bent in the second inning, allowing a run to score on a wild pitch, but did not break and escaped without further damage. Guasch completely lost the strike zone in the third, however.

The righty issued a leadoff walk to Angels No. 4 prospect Jordyn Adams to start the inning, which was followed by an RBI triple from Angels No. 14 prospect Kevin Maitan. After recording a strikeout of Nonie Williams, Guasch walked three consecutive batters to push in the Bees' third run of the game. Alexis Olmeda's two-run single extended Burlington's lead to 5-0, and then Justin Jones capped the rally with another RBI knock.

All told, Guasch allowed six runs in 2 1/3 innings. He allowed just two hits, but walked six batters- two more than he walked in 27 1/3 innings for the rookie-league DSL A's in 2018. Guasch also struck out five.

The Snappers scored their first run of the night in the fifth inning, courtesy of some iffy defense from the Bees. Ryan Gridley reached on a single to lead off the inning; he would eventually score on an errant pickoff throw from the catcher Olmeda that sailed into the visitors' bullpen in right field.

Beloit scored three more in the seventh: two runs scored when the left fielder Williams turned a routine fly ball from Devin Foyle into a three-base error. Max Schuemann then drove Foyle in with an RBI single. All four runs the Bees allowed on Tuesday were unearned.

Burlington compensated for poor defense by piling on a few more runs. Joe DeMers allowed solo home runs to Alvaro Rubalcaba and Jones in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively. Williams had an RBI single in the sixth and then added a sacrifice fly in the eighth.

Beloit tallied seven hits on the night, four of which came from two-hit performances by Schuemann and Gridley. JJ Schwarz singled to extend his hitting streak to five games, while Joseph Pena singled and walked, meaning he has now reached base in 21 of his 22 games with Beloit.

The Snappers will hope to even their three-game series with Burlington tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. CT. Aiden McIntyre (1-3, 2.90 ERA) and his 13.3 K/9 will hope for some run support from the Snappers as they face the Bees' Cole Duensing (4-2, 4.50 ERA).

The Beloit Snappers are a member of the Midwest League and have been the Single-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics. For more ticket information, contact the Snappers office at (608) 362- 2272 or visit our website, www.snappersbaseball.com.
