San Antonio Rampage News Release

San Antonio - San Antonio Rampage forward Martin Sonnenberg got the game off to a good start with a goal in the opening period but the Iowa Stars kept the Rampage at bay leaving San Antonio scoreless for the remainder of the game Friday night. Iowa goaltender Mike Smith had 19 saves in his eighth win as the Stars cruised to a 4-1 victory in their first visit to the SBC Center.

Eric Chouinard's first goal in a Rampage uniform was disallowed at 2:01 in the opening period due to an interference penalty. Despite the call, San Antonio scored the game's first goal when Randall Gelech passed the puck to David Cornacchia for a shot but was deflected by Iowa's Smith. Sonnenberg took advantage of the loose puck collecting his eighth goal of the season at 14:27 in the opening period.

Iowa came back in the second to score a trio of goals as they outshot the Rampage 12-4 in the period. Iowa forward Marius Holtet tied the score at 4:13 when his shot ricochet off David LeNeveu's glove and into the net. The Stars would slip another goal past LeNeveu as Jamie Johnson tucked the puck into the narrow slot between the left goal post and LeNeveu's right skate for Iowa's third goal of the night.

The Rampage fought hard in the third period only to have Stars' right wing B.J. Crombeen cap the win at 3:27.

The Rampage (11-22-0-1) host their Texas rival, the Houston Aeros, Saturday night at 7 p.m. in the SBC Center to close out 2005.
