Crawford comes up big as Admirals down Bears 2-1

In a hard-fought East Division battle, the Norfolk Admirals defeated the Hershey Bears 2-1 in a shootout.

Neither team found the back of the net through two periods of play, but it was not due to a lack of chances. Norfolk netminder Corey Crawford and Bears ' backstop Kirk Daubenspeck were solid between the pipes, stopping 16 and 21 shots respectively through 40 minutes.

Hershey got on the board first 1:55 into the third period. Bears' winger Boyd Kane sent a shot from the right face-off circle toward the net. The puck deflected off the blade of an Admirals' defenseman and past Crawford to give Hershey a 1-0 lead. Norfolk tied the game less than three minutes later while on a five-on-three power play. Jason Morgan sent a wrist shot from the top of the left face-off circle that found its way through traffic and past Daubenspeck to tie the score at one goal apiece 4:31 into the third. Crawford made several big saves late in the third, including five in the final five minutes, as the game went to overtime.

The Admirals had several chances to win the game in overtime. However, Daubenspeck made eight saves to keep the Admirals off the board. The game went to a shootout.

In the shootout, Crawford prevented Colin Forbes, Jakub Klepis, Jonas Johansson and Boyd Gordon from converting their attempts. Martin St. Pierre and Milan Bartovic converted their attempts to give the Admirals a 2-1 victory.

Corey Crawford picked up the win and made 32 saves on 33 shots in the process. Hershey's Kirk Daubenspeck stopped 41 of 42 Admirals' shots as the Bears lost in a shootout.

Norfolk was 1-8 on the power play while Hershey was 0-6.
