
Bulldogs Beaten by Griffins

Grand Rapids, MI - The Hamilton Bulldogs fell to the Grand Rapids Griffins by a score of 7-2 on Friday night at Van Andel Arena. The 'Dogs record now stands at 13-22-0-2.
Grand Rapids scored the only goal of the first period at 5:40 when Valtteri Filppula fired the puck from in close past Bulldogs goaltender Jeff Deslauriers.
The Griffins extended their lead to 2-0 just 1:26 into the middle stanza when Jiri Hudler centered the puck from behind the net and Darryl Bootland rifled a one-time shot over the shoulder of Deslauriers.
Hamilton cut Grand Rapids lead in half with a power-play goal at 11:05 when Michael Lambert snapped a high shot over Griffins goaltender Manny Legace. It was Lambert's third marker in his last three games.
Eric Himelfarb and Jiri Hudler scored 1:27 apart near the end of the second period to give the Griffins a 4-1 lead heading into the third period. On a short 2-on-1 at 16:13, Himelfarb roofed a pass he received from Kent McDonell. At 17:40, Matt Ellis was positioned behind Hamilton's net and passed the puck out in front to Hudler, who beat Deslauriers with a high shot.
The third period featured four goals, one by Hamilton and three by Grand Rapids. Bulldogs forward Francis Lemieux recorded his eleventh goal of the season just 1:04 into the third period.
Matt Ellis (at 3:53) and Donald MacLean (at 4:12) scored just 19 seconds apart to give the Griffins a four goal lead. With Grand Rapids on the power play, Ellis potted his second of the period at 17:11 to round out the scoring.
Deslauriers made 32 saves, while Legace stopped 20 shots.
Both the Bulldogs and Griffins scored once on five power play opportunities.
Hamilton completes the calendar year of 2005 tomorrow, Saturday, December 31, when they face the Rivermen in Peoria. Game time is 8:00 p.m.
The Bulldogs next home action will take place on Wednesday, January 4, when the Grand Rapids Griffins visit Copps Coliseum. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
