Columbus Signs Darcy Verot

Syracuse, NY (December 30, 2005) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have signed left wing Darcy Verot to an NHL contract. The Crunch also announced that they have signed defenseman Eric Lundberg and right wing J.B. Bittner to professional tryout contracts and that goaltender Mike Ayers has been reassigned to Dayton (ECHL).

Verot, 29, has appeared in 12 games with Syracuse this season, recording 1 assist and 39 penalty minutes. In 36 games with Portland last season, Verot recorded 1 assist and 189 penalty minutes. In 321 career AHL games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Saint John, Portland and Syracuse Verot has tallied 29 goals, 48 assists and 1,446 penalty minutes. Verot has registered 2 assists and 135 penalty minutes in 37 NHL games with Washington. A native of Radville, Saskatchewan, Verot was originally signed to a P.T.O. with Syracuse on November 16.

Lundberg, 22, has appeared 29 games with Augusta (ECHL), registering 3 goals, 6 assists and 42 penalty minutes. In four seasons with Providence College (HE), Lundberg recorded 2 goals, 31 assists and 145 penalty minutes. A native of Vernon, Connecticut, Lundberg was originally selected by Colorado in the third round, 94th overall, in the 2002 Entry Draft.

Bittner, 23, has split time with Johnstown (ECHL) (21gp, 6g, 9a, 12 PIM's) and Portland (AHL) (5gp, 1a) this season. A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Bittner played 160 games with Ohio State (CCHA), tallying 37 goals, 39 assists and 121 penalty minutes.

Ayers, 25, has split time with Syracuse (9gp, 5-3-0 record, 2.80gaa) and Dayton (8gp, 3-4-1 record, 3.21gaa) this season. In 12 career AHL games with Grand Rapids, Cincinnati and Syracuse, Ayers has posted a 6-3-1 record and 2.64 goals against average. A native of Hingham, Massachusetts, Ayers signed an AHL contract with Syracuse on November 17.
