Russell and Gillis Recalled to AHL

WHEELING, WV – The Wheeling Nailers announce today that American Hockey League teams have called up forward Bobby Russell and defenseman Ryan Gillis.

Russell returns to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins where he began this season. Russell made the AHL team out of training camp and appeared in five games without registering a point and played at a +1. With the Nailers he has played 14 games and leads the team with ten goals. Russell also has two assists for 12 points with the Nailers and is playing at a +4. Of his ten goals three have been power play goals, one was a shorthanded goal and four times he has scored the first goal of the game.

The Cleveland Barons have called up Gillis. This is the first time this season that Gillis has been called up to the AHL. In 24 games with the Nailers he has 11 points on four goals and seven assists. Of his four goals, he has scored two of them on the power play. Gillis will play in Cleveland on Thursday and is expected to be back with the Nailers for their home game against Dayton on Friday.

The Nailers play two home games this weekend. The Dayton Bombers are in town on Friday at 7:30p.m. The Nailers annual Teddy Bear Toss will take place during the game with fans encouraged to bring a new stuffed animal to the game and toss it on the ice after the Nailers first goal. On Saturday, the Toledo Storm are in Wheeling for a 7:30p.m. game. The Toys-for-Tots campaign will continue with collection bins located at the Wheeling Civic Center entrances.
