Reading Royals News Release

READING, PA – The Reading Royals have traded the rights for defenseman Jimmy Verdule to the Florida Everblades (AHL) for the rights to defensemen Remi Royer, who will be assigned to the Royals from the Houston Aeros (AHL). Royer drafted by the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks in the second round, 31st draft choice overall in 1996. Royer played in Cleveland with current Royals Brian McCullough, Geoff Peters and Colin Pepperall, and was a teammate in Midget hockey with Simon Tremblay. Royer, 24, of Donnaconna, Quebec, split last season between four teams, playing 48 games with Providence and Quebec of the AHL, totaling four goals and 16 points. He also played in 18 games with Pensacola and Florida of the ECHL and had a goal and 10 points.

Royer played 18 NHL games with Chicago in 1998-99. He had his best pro season with Indianapolis (IHL) in 1998-99 when he had four goals and 19 points in 54 games in addition to his time with Chicago. In 1999-2000, Royer played for Cleveland (IHL) where he totaled three goals and 16 points in 57 games and had a career-high 204 penalty minutes.

"We are happy to acquire the rights to Remi, who we feel is a top quality defenseman that will bring us additional experience, leadership, and toughness to our defensive corps," Reading Royals General Manager Ray Delia said. "We appreciate the effort given to us by Jimmy and we wish him luck."

Royer is on his way from Florida to Reading and is expected to be in the Royals lineup before the end of the month.
