Reading Fightin Phils News Release
(Akron, OH) - A two-out, two-run home run from Michael Ramirez in the bottom of the ninth inning led the Akron RubberDucks (23-11; 60-43) to a 3-2 win over the Reading Fightin Phils (13-21; 44-58) on Tuesday night from Canal Park.
The Fightin Phils bullpen turned in an impressive effort for the majority of the night. Konnor Ash opened with two-strong inning, striking out four and allowing one hit. Carlos Francisco followed and allowed one run in bottom of the third inning on a Chase DeLauter ground out. Andrew Baker turned in a stellar outing with two-scoreless innings and struck out five. Behind Baker, Tommy McCollum did not allow a run over two innings.
Reading's two run came in the top of the fifth inning when Justin Crawford singled to center field to score both Caleb Ricketts and Trevor Schwecke to make it 2-1 at the time.
Cristian Hernandez (L, 1-2) entered in the ninth with a one-run lead for Reading. Aaron Brach led off the inning with a walk, but Hernandez was able to retire the next two hitters. But, Ramirez followed with his third home run of the season to left field to give Akron the series-opening win.
