Reading Royals News Release
Royals Notes:
- The Royals went 2-2-0 in the four games played this past week. Reading's record is now 36-17-7=79, which places the Royals in first place in the North Division of the American Conference and translates into a .658 win percentage-which is tied for the fifth best win percentage in the league.
- With the 3-1 loss in Toledo last Wednesday, the Royals remained winless (0 - 3 - 2) in the five games played so far this season at the Toledo Sports Arena. Reading returns to the Sports Arena this Sunday for the final time in the regular season.
- Wednesday's 3-1 loss to the Storm extended the Royals' winless streak against Toledo to seven games (0 - 4- 3) dating back to a 5-3 win for the Royals at the Sovereign Center on December 3, 2005. The Royals snapped that winless streak with the 3-1 win over the Storm in Reading last Friday night.
- In the first three games this week-the 3-1 loss in Toledo, the 3-1 win against the Storm at home, and the 3-1 win in Dayton-Reading scored the game's first goal. On the season, the Royals are 25-3-5 when scoring the game's first goal
- Reading's lone goal in the 3-1 win over the Storm on Wednesday night was scored by Mike Kompon-his fourteenth of the season-in his first game since returning to the Royals from the Binghamton Senators of the AHL, where he had played since February 9. (Kompon missed 14 games with the Royals while he was with the Senators.)
- Wednesday's goal extended Kompon's personal point streak to 25 games (8g - 32a = 40 pts), the longest scoring streak in the EHCL this season and the fourth longest in the history of the league.
- Kompon was held pointless in Friday's 3-1 win over Toledo, snapping his personal point streak and his home scoring streak at 13 games, the third longest home point streak in the ECHL this season.
- Kompon scored his fifteenth goal of the season on Saturday night in the Royals' 3-1 win in Dayton, extending his personal road point streak to 13 games-the second longest in the league this year-which was snapped in Sunday's 1-0 loss in Johnstown.
- Kompon has picked up at least one point in 35 of the 41 games that he's played for the Royals this year.
- Kompon is the leading scorer for the Royals with 15 goals and 41 assists (56 points) in 41 games.
- Eric Werner scored the game's first goal in Friday's 3-1 win over Toledo, marking his sixth goal over a span of ten games for the Royals.
- Going into Wednesday's 3-1 loss in Toledo, Werner had been riding a ten game point streak (5g - 10a = 15pts), but was held pointless in that game.
- Werner did not play in Saturday's 3-1 win in Dayton, but returned to action in Sunday's 1-0 loss in Johnstown.
- Shay Stephenson scored the game winning goal in the 3-1 win for Reading over Toledo on Friday night.
- Stephenson also scored the game winner in Reading's 3-1 win in Dayton on Saturday, marking the first time this season that a member of the Royals had scored back-to-back game winning goals.
- Stephenson now has three game winners for the Royals, making him one of eight Reading players with at least three game winners this year.
- Stephenson has now scored 16 goals on the year, placing him third overall on the team in that category-and second amongst active players on the roster. (Dany Roussin is second in goals scored with 22-but he is currently on recall to the Manchester Monarchs of the AHL.)
- Malcolm MacMillan picked up a goal and an assist in Friday's 3-1 win over Toledo, marking his fifth multi-point performance of the season. (In fact, on Friday night, MacMillan actually registered a "Gordie Howe hattrick," racking up a goal, an assist, and a fight-against Toledo's Josh Zavitz.)
- MacMillan's goal on Friday was his eleventh of the season-ten of which had come in a span of 22 games and seven of which had come over a span of 12 games.
- MacMillan also assisted on the Royals' game winning goal in Saturday's 3-1 win over Dayton.
- Reagan Rome scored a goal and picked up an assist in the Royals' 3-1 win in Dayton on Saturday, marking his fifth multi-point game of the season.
- Saturday's goal was the fifth of the season for Rome-and his first of the season that was not scored on the power play.
- Cody Rudkowsky was the Royals' goaltender in all four games this week, and he has now played eight consecutive games for Reading-and 13 of the last 15 since his initial return from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL on February 7. (Rudkowsky has gone 8-4-1 in those games.)
- In the four games played this week, Rudkowsky allowed just five goals against on 124 total shots-which translates into a 1.26 goals against average and a .960 save percentage.
- Saturday's 3-1 win in Dayton was Rudkowsky's 20th victory of the year for the Royals-he has also won five games in eight decisions in the AHL this season with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (5-2-1, 2.06, .938)
- Over the course of the season, Rudkowksy's record for Reading is now 20 - 7 - 3, with a 2.28 goals against average and a .926 save percentage.
- Rudkowksy's 2.28 goals against average is the third best in the league.
- Sunday's 1-0 loss to the Johnstown Chiefs marked the second time this season that Reading has been shut out. (The Royals were also blanked on November 9 by the Trenton Titans.)
- This marked the third 1-0 game for the Royals this season-in the other two, Reading defeated Dayton by that same score on February 18 and February 24.
- In the Royals' last 11 games, the team has scored more than 3 goals only once-a 4-2 win over Trenton on March 4. (The Royals did score four goals against Greenville in the 4-2 win over the Grrrowl on February 28, but the fourth goal in that game was an empty netter.)
- Over the last eleven games, the Royals have scored a total of 26 goal-a 2.36 goals per game average.
- As of December 31, 2005, the Royals were averaging 4.19 goals per game-second best in the ECHL.
- The Royals currently average 3.50 goals per game-sixth overall in the league.
- Over the course of the four games this past week, the Royals scored one power play goal in seventeen chances with the man advantage, a 5.8% scoring ratio.
- In the last ten games, the Royals have scored ten power play goals in 56 chances with the man advantage a 12.5% scoring ratio.
- Over the course of the season, Reading is 66 for 319 with the man advantage, a 20.7% scoring ratio, which is sixth in the league in that category.
- Last week, the Royals' penalty killers allowed 2 goals against in 23 chances for the opponents with the man advantage, a 91.3% kill ratio.
- Over the last ten games, the Royals have only allowed 5 power play goals against in 65 power plays for the opposition-a 92.3% kill ratio.
- Over the last 22 games, Reading has given up 15 power play goals in 146 opportunities, an 89.7% kill ratio.
- Over the course of the season, the Royals are fourth in the league in penalty killing with an 85.8% kill ratio.
