Johnstown Chiefs News Release


The Johnstown Chiefs (27-21-12) went 2-0-1 last week, and have picked up 13 of the last 16 possible points. The Chiefs toppled the Trenton Titans on Friday, 2-1. On Saturday, The Chiefs rallied to force overtime, before falling to Wheeling, 6-5. On Sunday, the Chiefs shut-out Reading, 1-0-their third 1-0 shutout this season. The Chiefs will again play three-in-three this weekend, as they travel to Reading, Friday, and then host Toledo on Saturday and Wheeling on Sunday.

Game #59 (3/10/06) JOHNSTOWN 2 -Trenton Cey 27 Saves

The Johnstown Chiefs allowed a goal, just 1:17 into the contest. It was the last goal the Chiefs allowed, as J.B. Bittner scored a first period power play goal, and Brandon Elliott followed with a diving rebound goal thirty five seconds later. Neither team was able to score over the last 49 minutes, as Chiefs goalie, Morgan Cey was brilliant down the stretch.

Game #59 (3/11/06) Wheeling 6 - JOHNSTOWN 5 OT Betz 15 saves/Cey 11 saves

The Chiefs trailed 5-1 later in the 2nd period. A Dmitri Tarabrin goal with three minutes remaining in the second period sparked a four goal comeback that culminated with a Justin Kelly Penalty Shot goal with :47 remaining. A Sean Collins goal with a minute remaining in overtime sent the Chiefs to defeat. Chiefs goaltenders, Mike Betz and Morgan Cey were both injured in the contest, but Betz, who started the game, was able to finish. Over three thousand fans were in attendance.

Game #60 (3/12/06) JOHNSTOWN 1 - READING 0 Cey 50 saves

Morgan Cey was brilliant, as he stopped all 50 shots he faced, en route to a 1-0 shutout. The 50 save shutout is believed to be a Johnstown Chiefs record. Randy Rowe scored the lone Chiefs goal, a power play tally in the first period. Johnstown hung to win their third straight against Reading, and fourth in five chances.
