Checkers snap five-game losing streak with big win over Greenville

CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte Checkers snapped a five-game losing streak on Sunday with a 4-3 win over the Greenville Grrrowl. The Checkers, with 61 points, are currently in fifth place of the South Divison and gained some ground over Augusta (55 points). Charlotte, with 61 points is just three points behind South Carolina who is in fourth place.

Friday, March 10, 2006 vs. Gwinnett, L, 1-2

The Gwinnett Gladiators defeated the Charlotte Checkers 2-1 Friday night in front of 6,962 fans at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena. Gwinnett's Cam Brown scored the game winner at the 14:10 mark of the third period.

Gwinnett scored the first goal of the game as Milan Gajic scored on the power play at the 10:57 mark of the first period. The Checkers evened the score early in the second period as Mike Bayrack scored from Brandon Cullen and Ryan Fultz. Brown's goal at the 14:10 mark of the third period sealed the game for the Gladiators.

Saturday, March 11, 2006 @ Gwinnett, L, 3-6

The Charlotte Checkers played two and a half periods of solid hockey Saturday night. It was the last half of a period that cost them, as the Gwinnett Gladiators scored four goals in the final stanza for a 6-3 win over the Checkers in Duluth, Georgia.

Guillaume Desbiens score a pair of goals and Scott Mifsud added a goal and two assists in the Gladiators triumph. Gwinnett goalie Adam Berkhoel, who played several games this season for the National Hockey League's Atlanta Thrashers, earned the win in net with 26 saves.

Saturday, March 13, 2006 vs. Greenville, W, 4-3

The Charlotte Checkers defeated the Greenville Grrrowl 4-3 Sunday in front of 5,418 fans at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena. Mike Bayrack and Brandon Cullen each scored a goal and recorded two assists to help the Checkers pick up their 28th win of the season.
