Victoria Royals News Release

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Royals today announced that the club has acquired a second round draft pick, 31st overall, in the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft from the Red Deer Rebels in exchange for overage defenceman Brett Cote (1994).

Victoria sends Cote to Red Deer after the Oakbank, MB native spent three seasons on Vancouver Island. Entering into his 20-year-old season, Cote has skated in 209 regular season games, collecting 89 points (15g-74a) and 89 penalty minutes. Cote also appeared in 19 post-season games with the Royals where he notched nine points (2g-7a) and 11 minutes in penalties.

"We would like to thank Brett for being a large part of the Victoria Royals family over the last three years," said Royals' General Manager Cameron Hope. "With so many quality overage players on our roster going into next year, we have to make some hard decisions. This move allows Brett the opportunity to continue his career with a great franchise and we wish him all the best."

Cote was one of six Royals' players born in 1994 that would be competing for the three 20-year-old spots allocated to teams. With the trade, Austin Carroll, Brandon Magee, Patrik Polivka, Steven Hodges and Travis Brown remain as the team's 20-year-old players heading into the 2014-15 season.
