Portland Winterhawks Announce Bantam Draft Results

The Western Hockey League held its annual Bantam Draft today, and the Hawks opened their selections by taking forward Cody Glass of Winnipeg, Manitoba with the 19th overall pick, acquired in a deal with Calgary in January.

A member of the Bantam AAA Winnipeg Hawks, Glass had 31 goals and 46 assists for 77 points in 32 games this season, then added 17 points in 11 playoff games.

The Hawks' next pick came in the third round, 65th overall, when the team took defenseman Jake Hobson from the Prince Albert Raiders' AA squad, where he had 32 points in 26 games.

Portland then made a pair of selections late in the fourth round, taking teammates from Shattuck-St. Mary's school in Minnesota. With the 85th pick they took forward Brannon McManus, who had 68 goals and 52 assists for 120 points in 65 games. Two picks later Portland selected fellow forward Scott Reedy, who posted 56 goals and 69 assists for 125 points in 65 games.

In the sixth round the Hawks selected goaltender Ethan Middendorf from the Arizona Bobcats of the High Performance Hockey League, and followed with defenseman Jackson Caller from Kamloops, British Columbia, who had 33 points in 52 games with the Kamloops Jardine Blazers.

The team's eighth round pick was Cole Guttman, a center with the Los Angeles Junior Kings, and they followed in the ninth round with center Dylan Burton, a teammate on the Winnipeg Hawks with Cody Glass, the team's first round pick. Burton had 43 points in 30 games this season.

The Winterhawks then added to their protected list in the 10th round by selecting WHL veteran Trace Elson, who's played with the Red Deer Rebels and Vancouver Giants.
