South Carolina Stingrays News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, IN- Paul Rodrigues broke a 1-1 deadlock at the 8:28 mark of the third period to lead the South Carolina Stingrays to a 3-1 win over the Indy Fuel on Sunday the Indiana Farmers Coliseum. South Carolina would also get 24 saves from goaltender Mark Dekanich and goals from Stephan Vigier and Brett Cameron in the win.

With the game even at one-goal each, South Carolina broke the tie midway through the third period. Defenseman Wade Epp left a shot go from the left point that was blocked in the slot. Rodrigues collected the loose puck and stepped towards Indy goaltender Shane Owen. He snapped a shot that beat the goaltender over the blocker for his second goal of the season to give South Carolina a 2-1 lead.

The Stingrays would score an empty net goal at 19:17 off the stick of Brett Cameron make it 3-1 and preserve the win, while handing the Fuel an eighth straight loss. The victory was the second straight win for South Carolina and was the club's sixth win in a 10-game road trip that ends next Friday in Atlanta.

For the sixth straight game, South Carolina opened the scoring Sunday in Indy. Vigier scored his third goal in as many games at the 13:37 mark of the first period. Vigier started the play, sending a pass in front for David Pacan. The Indy defense cleared the puck to the slot, but right to Vigier. The forward snapped a wrist shot that beat Owen below the blocker to make it 1-0 South Carolina. The goal was Vigier's sixth goal of the season.

The Fuel would even the score midway though the second period on the power play. Garett Bembridge struck for his ninth goal of season on a one-timer from the left wing. Alex Lavoie's first centering pass failed, but his second attempt to Bembridge was on-target. The one-time shot beat a sprawled Dekanich at 7:40 to make it 1-1.

Dekanich and the Stingrays penalty kill would not falter late in the second period as they killed off 47 seconds of five-on-three action to keep the score at 1-1 heading into the third period. Dekanich earned his fifth win of the season in goal. Each team fired 25 shots in Sunday's game.
