BRAMPTON, ON - Trevor Cann dove across his crease and made a spectacular save at the end of the second period to keep the game scoreless heading into the final frame and that seemed to spark the Brampton Beast. They scored three goals in the third period to take a 3-0 victory over the Kalamazoo Wings at the Powerade Centre on Sunday afternoon.

Luke Pither scored a pair of goals in his return to the Beast lineup, Chris Auger added a single and Brandon Marino had three assists as the Beast ended their three-game winless skid. Cann was perfect between the pipes for the Beast and made 24 saves for his first shutout of the season.

After two periods of tight defensive play, the Beast blew the game open early in the third period. Pither redirected a slap pass from Auger behind K-Wings starter Joel Martin to open the scoring at 4:06.

Fans at Powerade Centre didn't have to wait long for the Beast to extend their lead to 2-0. Auger redirected home a shot from Brandon Marino on the power play at 7:30, giving the Beast a two-goal lead.

With almost three minutes to go in the game and the Beast killing a Reggie Traccitto slashing penalty, the K-Wings pulled the goalie to gain a 6-on-4 advantage. Pither made Kalamazoo pay for that mistake as he collected the puck in front of his goaltender, turned and fired a long shot that found the empty net for a shorthanded empty-netter at 17:28.

The Beast defense shut the door for the remainder of the game to preserve the shutout for Cann.

Kalamazoo's Martin had a solid game between the pipes and allowed two goals on 30 shots.

Notes: The Beast were a perfect 6-for-6 on the penalty kill and scored one power play goal on seven opportunities. Pither now has goals in his last three games for the Beast. He notched goals in back-to-back games on Nov. 28 and 29, then earned a promotion to the St. John's IceCaps, before scoring a pair in this afternoon's contest. He now has five goals in his last three games wearing a Beast uniform.

The Beast are back in action on Wednesday morning as they host local schools for the upcoming game against the Manchester Monarchs at 11:00 AM. Single game tickets are now available, starting at $16.25. Trial Packs for the 2015-16 season are also available starting at $39.99 that include three game tickets.
