Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, AK - Stephen Perfetto's third period goal broke a 3-3 tie and the Alaska Aces held on for the 4-3 victory Saturday night at the Sullivan Arena.
Alaska (8-12-1-2) had to battle back from a deficit, down 2-0 after one period on Colorado (8-12-2-0) goals by Joe Zarbo and a power play strike by Trent Daavettila.
In the second, the Aces made a big offensive push, kickstarted by Justin Breton's breakaway backhand 5-hole tuck shot at 3:02, his 9th goal of the season. At 11:29, Gleason Fournier scored his 7th goal of the season on the power play with a blast from just inside the blue line. Shortly after that, Tommaso Traversa redirected a centering pass from Peter Sivak past Eagles goaltender Tate Maris and the Aces went to the locker room with a 3-2 lead. The goal was Traversa's 9th of the season.
Colorado's Jake Marto tied the game at 3 with his deep slot shot at 2:15 of the third period, setting up Perfetto's heroics.
Aces forward Collin Valcourt sent a severe-angle shot from the left wing boards toward the Colorado net. Maris got a glove on it, but deflected the puck and it dropped behind him in the crease. Before Maris or defenseman Adrian Veideman could swat it away, Perfetto swooped in and batted the puck into the net to give Alaska the lead.
The win was not secured until Breton used his speed to race into the Eagles end in the last few seconds, winning a race to the puck and negating an icing call that would have brought the faceoff back in the Aces zone.
Shots on goal were even at 22 for both teams.
Maris had 18 saves on the night. Winning goaltender Steven Summerhays had 19 saves.
Alaska now heads out on the road to Utah this Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
