Peters, Everblades Swipe Two Points from Steelheads

December 6, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release

Boise, ID - The Idaho Steelheads (7-12-4) fired 34 shots on goal tonight but Florida Everblades (16-8-0) goaltender Anthony Peters made 33 saves, as the Everblades spoiled the party on Teddy Bear Toss for Tots night at CenturyLink Arena, 3-1.

Brandon Magee's power play goal on a 5-on-3 blast from the top of the left circle brought forth thousands of teddy bears from the fans at CenturyLink Arena, which were collected by the US Marine Corps and donated to their local Toys for Tots campaign. It also cut the Steelheads' deficit to 2-1 at just 39 seconds of the second period.

It was Magee's sixth goal of the season and gives him a three-game points scoring streak. Cole Ully and Jefferson Dahl picked up assists, giving each player at least a point in two straight games, as well.

The Steelheads brought wave after wave against the Everblades, outshooting Florida 12-3 in the second period and 23-10 over the final 40 minutes. They couldn't manage to beat Peters however, who relieved Daniel Altshuller midway through Friday's contest and who gave up five goals in his last start in Colorado on November 28th on just 22 shots against. Tonight, he was nearly unbeatable.

The Everblades opened the scoring early in the first, when Kevin Lynch tried a cross-ice pass in the Steelheads zone at 4:44 of the period. The pass deflected off of Magee and the broken play landed right on Matt Willows' stick at the right post. Willows lifted the puck over goaltender Maxime Lagace and made it 1-0 Florida.

At 17:50 of the first, Mark Nemec exited the penalty box for Florida and joined a 3-on-2 rush through the neutral zone. Lagace made a kick save on a high-slot wrist shot from Ryan Martindale, but the rebound kicked right to Nemec who potted his first of the season and made it 2-0.

Willows added an empty-netter for his second goal of the night with 49 seconds to go in regulation. It was Willows' third in the past three games and fifth against Idaho this season.

The Steelheads head back on the road for four games in five nights, beginning in Allen against the Americans before the team moves on for a pair with the Tulsa Oilers. The Steelheads and Americans will face off Wednesday at 7:05pm MT at Allen Events Center, with the game available on 1350KTIK and ECHLTV.
