Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Greenville, SC - The Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, today announced forward Ryan Rashid has been loaned to the AHL's Charlotte Checkers, while forward Henri Ikonen has been reassigned to the AHL's Syracuse Crunch by the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Rashid, 25, made 23 appearances with the Swamp Rabbits this season and was tied for third on the club in scoring with 13 points (6g, 7a). He also notched two power-play goals, 20 penalty minutes and was second on the team with 61 shots.
A native of Farmington Hills, Michigan, Rashid came to the Swamp Rabbits this past offseason following a successful rookie campaign with Elmira in 2014-15. In 65 games, he led the Jackals with 25 assists and finished second on the club with 41 points. He added 16 goals, 51 penalty minutes and a +7 rating during that span. In addition, the second-year forward debuted with Elmira in 2013-14 and notched four points (2g, 2a) in just six contests.
Prior to turning pro, Rashid played four seasons at Niagara University from 2010-14, producing 88 points (38g, 50a) in 143 collegiate games. He helped lead the Purple Eagles to the American Hockey Association (AHA) regular season championship in 2012-13 and was named to the AHA All-Rookie Team in 2010-11 after amassing a career-best 13 goals and 26 points in 34 games.
Before attending Niagara, the 6'2, 194-pounder played junior hockey for the Sioux City Musketeers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) and the St. Louis Bandits of the North American Hockey League (NAHL). Rashid helped St. Louis capture the Robertson Cup as the NAHL champion in 2008-09.
Ikonen (pronounced AWH-ree, EE-kah-nehn) scored the game-winning goal in his Swamp Rabbits debut last Thursday and added a +1 rating in three games with Greenville. Previously, the 21-year-old made 17 appearances with the Crunch this season, collecting four points (1g, 3a) and four penalty minutes. He also skated in 59 contests with Syracuse during the 2014-15 campaign, earning 13 points (5g, 8a) and 43 penalty minutes. Overall, Ikonen has recorded 19 points (6g, 13a) and 49 penalty minutes in 82 career games with the Crunch.
A native of Savonlinna, Finland, Ikonen played seven games with Team Finland at the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championships in Sweden, helping the squad win the Gold Medal at the tournament.
From 2012 to 2014, Ikonen skated in 115 major-junior contests with the Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), collecting 121 points (47g, 74a) and 79 penalty minutes. The 6'0, 185-pound forward set career highs for goals (25), assists (45), points (70), plus/minus (+17) and penalty minutes (49) during the 2013-14 season.
Ikonen was selected in the sixth round (154th overall) by Tampa Bay in the 2013 NHL Draft. He was signed to a three-year, two-way NHL contract with the team on April 6, 2014.
