Quad City Mallards News Release

Mallards Notes

Last Game

Sam Warning scored the only goal of the shootout and Brody Hoffman turned aside all three Cincinnati Cyclone shooters after making 27 saves in regulation and overtime as the Mallards claimed a 2-1 shootout victory over the host Cyclones Tuesday night.

Streaking

The Mallards have won four straight games for the first time since winning the final four games of the 2013-14 Central Hockey League regular season between March 26 and March 30, 2014. The Mallards last won five in a row between December 21 and December 30, 2013.

First

The Mallards have used their current winning streak to surge into first place in the ECHL's Midwest Division. The Mallards hold a one-point lead over second place Cincinnati.

Respite

Tonight's game is the Mallards' only action in a nine day stretch that follows a run during which the Mallards played five times in seven days and eight times in 12 days.

Road Recovery

Tuesday's win halted the Mallards' team record-tying eight-game (0-6-2) road winless streak. Tuesday's victory was the Mallards' first since they won their season opener in Allen October 16. In between they matched the club record for away winless streak first set when they went 0-4-4 on the road between November 9 and December 5 last year. The Mallards Tuesday also stopped a five-game road regulation losing streak.

Home Sweet Home

The Mallards have won eight straight home games and are unbeaten in regulation (10-0-1) in 11 home games since dropping their home opener October 23 against Tulsa. The Mallards are three wins away from the team record set when they won 11 straight United Hockey League games at home between January 25 and February 29, 2004. Their current home regulation unbeaten streak is seven games shy of the club record set when they went 18 straight UHL home games (15-0-3) without a regulation defeat between January 10 and March 13, 2004.

Perfect 10

The Mallards lead the ECHL in home wins (10).

Sunday Fun Day

The Mallards are 4-0-0 on Sunday this season.

Shootout

The Mallards Tuesday won a shootout for the first time in three tries this season. Tuesday's victory followed shootout losses October 17 at Wichita and October 30 at Norfolk.

Sudden Death

The Mallards have gone to overtime in each of their last two games. A 2-1 overtime win over Indy last Sunday preceded Tuesday's shootout victory.

Division

The IceMen are the only Midwest Division opponent the Mallards had not met before today. This is the Mallards' fourth game in a row against a division foe. The Mallards are 5-3-0 in division games and have won their last four.

Goal Shy

The Mallards have allowed two goals or fewer in four straight games and have scored three or fewer in seven straight outings.

Between the Pipes

Steve Michalek is on a four-game winning streak during which he has stopped 124 of 130, posting a 1.49 goals against average and a .954 save percentage. Michalek ranks eighth in the ECHL in save percentage (.927).

Back to the 'Well

Austin Coldwell has scored the Mallards' last two (non-shootout) goals. Coldwell scored at 4:14 of sudden death to give the Mallards victory over Indy last Sunday and provided a power play goal with just 32 seconds left in the second period Tuesday in Cincinnati.

Matt Neal is tied for third among ECHL rookies in goals (9) and is tied for sixth among rookies in points (17).

Blue Line

Mike Monfredo is tied for fourth among defensemen in assists (13) and is tied for fifth in points (15).

Special Teams
