The Kelowna Rockets extended their win streak to six games with a come from behind 3-1 victory over the Vancouver Giants on Saturday night at Prospera Place in Kelowna, BC.
Meeting for the second time in under 24 hours, it was a much different story from last night's 6-0 Rocket victory in Langley.
Down 1-0 heading into the final period, the Rockets found life in the third with three straight goals, including the winner off of Jake Poole's stick. Talyn Boyko was named the game's winner with 25 saves, picking up his 15th win of the season.
With the win, the Rockets record moves to 22-10-1-3, they're second in the BC Division with 48 points.
Just before the midway point of the opening frame, Jake Poole beat Giants starter Jesper Vikman but nailed the crossbar. Minutes later Evan Toth (2) fired a shot past Rockets netminder Talyn Boyko.
The second period saw a defensive battle between the two as no goals were posted.
John Babcock (2) tied the game before the ten-minute mark of the third. Jake Poole (12) continued his torrid pace, netting the game-winner minutes later. Minnesota Wild prospect Pavel Novak (18) scored a short-handed goal with just under five to go in the game.
Both teams were zero-for-four on the night with the power play.
Kelowna outshot Vancouver 31-25.
Nolan Flamand, Colton Dach and Tyson Feist all missed the game with non-covid related injuries.
The Rockets will now head out on a road trip next weekend that will see them stop in Spokane on Friday, Tri-City on Saturday and Everett on Sunday.
The next Rockets home game is February 9th when the Rockets will once again host the Vancouver Giants at Prospera Place. Tickets for all Rockets games are available at selectyourtickets.com, at the Prospera Place box office or by phone at 250-762-5050. Select Your Tickets is open 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and opens at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday home game days.
The home game that the Rockets play on February 9th is home game number 21. The postponed game against the Giants that was set for January 7th has yet to be rescheduled, a new date for that game is expected to be announced soon. The Rockets thank you for your patience.
