Swift Current Broncos News Release

Edmonton, Alta. - The Swift Current Broncos (14-21-4-1) had a tough time containing the high-octane offence of the Edmonton Oil Kings (28-10-2-1) Saturday night, falling 7-0 at Rogers Place.

A scoreless first period saw both teams with power-play opportunities in the opening 20 minutes, but Reid Dyck had a strong opening 20 minutes by turning aside all 14 shots sent his way. The shots read 14-5 Edmonton after one.

The Oil Kings blew the game open in the second period, scoring 1:46 into the frame as Jake Neighbours fired a one timer in from the right circle.

Carter Souch then buried a back-door feed from Dylan Guenther to put Edmonton ahead 2-0 five minutes into the second. Jakub Demek and Brendan Kuny then scored 1:10 apart to put the Oil Kings up 4-0 at the 8:40 mark of the period.

Souch and Cole Miller rounded out the scoring in the period as the Oil Kings controlled play for the full 20 minutes, taking a 6-0 lead into the intermission and outshooting the Broncos 22-1 in the period.

The score remained the same until the final minutes of regulation when Kaiden Guhle added another to push Edmonton ahead 7-0.

The game started getting rough late in regulation as the Oil Kings took exception to a few Broncos hits. Guhle dragged Maddix McCagherty down from behind during a scrum and both players were sent to the locker room with 10-minute misconducts. Final shots were 50-11 Edmonton.

The Broncos will try and salvage their three-game weekend against the Calgary Hitmen (17-14-5-2) Sunday afternoon for a 4:00 game.
