Saskatoon Blades News Release
SASKATOON, SK - The Saskatoon Blades couldn't keep the win streak alive, falling to the Brandon Wheat Kings 3-0 at SaskTel Centre.
The loss comes over a week after Saskatoon defeated the Winnipeg ICE by a 7-2 score - the crew's fourth straight victory.
In what was the team's first contest after COVID postponed three games over the last week, the Wheat Kings collected goals in all three periods.
Rylen Roersma, Ridley Greig and Vincent Iorio each lit the lamp, improving the Wheat Kings to 20-14-2-2 on the year.
Brandon netminder Ethan Kruger stopped all 23 shots while Nolan Maier made 24 saves as Saskatoon falls to 21-15-1-1 on the campaign.
The win pins Brandon and Saskatoon into a deadlock for third place in the East Division, six points back of the Moose Jaw Warriors, who are riding a six-game winning streak.
Roersma had the lone marker in the first as he tapped a loose puck past Maier. Then in the dying seconds of the opening frame, a hit from Rhett Rhinehart on Quinn Mantei prompted a response from Ridley Greig where the two battled it out. The 20-second tilt resulted in both players receiving five-minute majors as well as an extra two-minute minor on Greig for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Brandon got another one after Nate Danielson's pass was tipped in by Greig, putting the Wheat Kings up by a pair after two periods of play.
Brandon would add an empty-net goal thanks to Iorio's shot from center ice.
Saskatoon now turns its attention to Wednesday, where they'll travel down to Regina to face the Pats in a rescheduled game from earlier this month.
